Problem Statement

Finding the perfect field hockey stick is a challenge for many players. While numerous models are available on the market, they often fail to meet the specific needs of individual players. Factors such as weight, material, and bow shape significantly impact playing style, yet many standard sticks lack the customisation options necessary for a truly tailored experience.

Additionally, field hockey players don’t just care about performance – they also want their stick to reflect their personality and style. A stick is more than just equipment; it’s part of a player’s identity on the field. However, existing solutions rarely offer the ability to personalise the design, leaving players with limited choices that don’t fully represent them.

Create Your Own Stick

This feature empowers players to design a hockey stick tailored to their unique playing style. Users can customize key attributes such as size, weight, material, bow shape, and visual design—creating a one-of-a-kind stick that performs as good as it looks.

Colour scheme

In-game visual aids such as cone markers and flags are typically fluorescent for visibility. We used this as a starting point and decided upon an electric green accent colour accent. This we tempered with a purple primary and an off white neutral.

Iconography

We used solid icons to improve visual clarity and ensure a high-contrast, accessible interface. These icons contribute to a sleek, modern design while keeping the UI dynamic and easy to navigate.

Reviving Heritage
Staying Fresh.

We looked at Typography in Sport and fitness applications and found a pronounced over-reliance on Nike-centric slab fonts, specifically Bebas Neue.Digging deeper into archival photography and classic ‘Sport Aesthetics’ we encountered interesting visual parallels between modern sport typefaces and vintage sew-on Jersey lettering.Space Grotesk reflects the heritage of these ancestral styles, which were shaped by scalability, yet it also manages to appear unique and theme relevant.

Wireframes

Before developing the prototype, we created wireframes to establish a clear and intuitive user flow. Our focus was on designing a structure that aligns with our core design principles—ensuring accessibility for all hockey players while reflecting the energy and passion of the sport.

High-Fidelity Wireframes & Prototyping

Building on our initial wireframes, we developed high-fidelity prototypes to bring our concept to life. The goal was to refine the visual design, interaction flow, and overall user experience, ensuring that every element aligned with our design principles & Style Guides

Our primary target audience consists of adult field hockey players who are passionate about the sport and seek a stick that matches both their playing style and their aesthetic preferences. These players range from amateurs to competitive athletes who want a high-quality, customisable stick that enhances their performance while also making a visual statement on the field.
